Project: Central Fire Station #50 Building Only in Glen St. Mary, FL
Scope: Construction of a new 10,092 SF fire station. The main structure was a prefabricated metal building. Building features consisted of four large bays with electric entry/exit roll-up doors for emergency vehicles, storage rooms for equipment, decontamination and general wash areas, living area with kitchen, baths, and sleeping quarters. Above the living area a mezzanine with poured-in-place concrete was construction for future expansion. Architectural features such as a split face knee wall and door canopies softened the “industrial” nature of metal building materials (see photos attached). Special features included: a CO2 exhaust system, thermostatically controlled bay heaters, fire sprinklers and 60 KW propane back-up generator.
Project: St. James Building (City Hall) – Entrance Rehabilitation, Jacksonville, FL
Self-performed as Prime Contractor, renovations to historic “City Hall” building in downtown Jacksonville, FL. Project consisted of reconstruction of various elements including but not limited to: deep foundation shoring including helical piles; complex ADA compliance with paver system, concrete retaining walls, walks, steps and columns; architectural cast-stone for walks, steps and columns; epoxy concrete injection repairs.
Project: Willow Branch Library Renovation, Jacksonville, FL
Renovations to historic public library. Main scopes of work included waterproofing basement walls, restoration of very large steel casement windows including lead paint abatement, repairing flat roof flashing deficiencies, installing French drain with out-fall so that existing storm water retention pond would not fill when water table changed. KBT was the prime contractor on this project. KBT self-performed the basement waterproofing and roofing repairs with its own staff. KBT managed all other disciplines including, lead remediation, painting contractor, civil contractor, mechanical contractor and electrical contractor.
Project: Jacksonville Fire Museum Repairs, Jacksonville, FL
Design/Build project to remove and replace the existing weapons clearing structure behind building 1591 with a new wood framed structure. Project was completed 27 days early with zero punch items required at final walk-through. Project scope included:
Project: Campus Towers Re-Roof and HVAC replacement, Jacksonville, FL
Scope: New roof system on two buildings totaling 33,000 square feet. Scopes included removing the existing roof system to structural concrete deck, installation of new tapered insulation with single ply 60 mil TPO system by Carlisle. Scope also included new electrical for 6 new roof-top HVAC units, modifications to low-voltage wiring, installation of new gutter system. KBT was prime contractor on this project. KBT self-performed the roofing component of this contract and managed all other disciplines which included electrical, HVAC, low-voltage and gutter systems.
Project: EOD Building, Jacksonville, FL
Design/Build – KBT was contracted to provide design/build services for the construction of a vehicle storage facility metal building. All federal aviation design guidelines with civil, structural and materials specifications were incorporated.
Project: Brick Veneer Removal and Replacement – Kent Campus Garage, Jacksonville, FL
In 2012 KBT was awarded through competitive bid to remove and replace all brick veneer on the parking garage at Kent Campus. Failing brick systems had to be removed while maintaining safety for the faculty and students. Considerable structural repairs had to be implemented and stringent fastener incorporated into masonry work.
Project: James E. Craig Memorial Bldg, Jacksonville, FL
In March 2012, KBT was awarded through competitive low bid the James E. Craig Memorial Building. This was a very unique structure with civil components, ADA challenges in relation to existing parking. Additionally curved/radius walls with special finishes which were accomplished by installing red cedar form liners. Main structure was steel with wood frame decorative inlays.
Project: Ridgeview HS Re-roof, Orange Park, FL.
KBT performed as Prime Contractor and Prime Roofing Contractor. Project was performed at a public high school and all work had to be completed in a short time frame while students were out for Summer break. Scope included: Demo existing 40,000 ft shingle system with 4800 ft internal gutter system to be rebuilt with liquid PMMA coating system. New shingle roof system and 1200 linear feet of 4-foot wide vinyl soffit system. Minor electrical repairs and mechanical venting system.
Project: Fuel Storage Wall, Jacksonville, FL.
In August 2012, KBT entered into a construction agreement to construct a 300 ft security wall around above ground fuel storage tanks in JTA main yard as a requirement of the Homeland Security Act. This project was federally funded and had extensive requirements to not disrupt refueling operations. After commencement of the project, contaminated soil was discovered and remediation steps were required. KBT successfully completed construction of heavy foundations (pictured below). The project was completed on May 13, 2013 and within budget.
